What we collect and where it comes from

Almost everything we hold, you have given us yourself.

  • The enquiry form on this website: your first and last name, phone number, email address, street address, town, postcode, a preferred date if you give one, and your message about the work you need. We also note which page of the site the form was on.
  • Calls, WhatsApp messages and emails: your name, your number or email address, and whatever you tell us about the job.
  • When we do the work: your address, details of your fireplace, stove or chimney, what we found and did, the sweeping certificate we issue, and what you paid.
  • Reviews: if you review us on a site such as Google or Trustpilot, that site shows your review under the name you chose. Our website displays some of those reviews.

To stop spam, the form also notes how long the page was open before it was sent. That check happens as the form arrives and the figure is not kept.

Like any website, our hosting provider sees technical details such as your IP address and browser when you visit, so it can deliver the pages and keep the site secure.

We never take card details through this website.

Why we use it and the lawful basis

Data protection law says we need a lawful reason for each thing we do with your information. Ours are:

  • Giving you a quote and booking your sweep: contract. We need your details to agree the job with you and carry it out.
  • Keeping job records and invoices: legal obligation. The law requires us to keep business records for tax.
  • Following up an enquiry you have sent us: legitimate interests. You asked us about work, so it is reasonable for us to get back to you about it.
  • Reminding you when your next sweep is due: TODO_REMINDERS. You can ask us to stop at any time.

If you do not give us the details a booking needs, such as your address, we cannot book the job.

We never sell your information, and we never pass it to anyone for their own marketing.

Who we share it with

We only share what each of these needs to do its job for us. The companies act on our instructions and may not use your information for their own purposes.

  • ServiceM8: our booking and job management system. Website enquiries go straight into it, and it holds our bookings and job records.
  • Resend (email delivery): sends each website enquiry to our inbox.
  • Vercel: hosts this website.
  • Ideal Postcodes: runs the address finder on our homepage and contact page. If you use it, the postcode or address you search for is sent to Ideal Postcodes to look up.
  • Trustpilot and Trustindex: show our reviews on this website. See the cookies section below.
  • Other chimney sweeps we work with: only when we pass one of them a job, and only the details they need to do it.

We will also share information where the law requires it, for example with HMRC.

International transfers

Some of the companies above may store your information on servers outside the UK. Where they do, the transfer is covered by UK adequacy regulations, or by the International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or the UK Addendum, which commit the company to protecting it to UK standards.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries that do not turn into a booking: 12 months.
  • Customer and job records, including sweeping certificates: 6 years, for tax and insurance purposes.

When that time is up, we delete it.

Cookies and third-party content

This website sets no cookies of its own and uses no analytics or advertising trackers. When we last checked, on 16 September 2026, no page on the site placed any cookies or stored anything in your browser. That is why there is no cookie banner: there is nothing to accept or refuse.

A few parts of the site load from other companies:

  • Trustpilot review badge, at the bottom of every page: loads from Trustpilot when you scroll near it, and Trustpilot records that the badge was shown.
  • Trustindex reviews, on the homepage: loads our reviews when you scroll near them, including reviewers' profile pictures from Google.
  • Ideal Postcodes address finder, on the homepage and contact page: loads when you start filling in the form.
  • WhatsApp button: a plain link. Nothing loads from WhatsApp unless you tap it, and your chat is then covered by WhatsApp's own privacy policy.
  • Fonts and icons: served from our own website, so nothing is requested from Google or any other font service.

When one of these loads, the company providing it receives your IP address and basic browser details, as any website would. If any of them starts setting cookies, we will update this page and ask for your consent first where the law requires it.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • see the information we hold about you (access)
  • have it corrected if it is wrong (rectification)
  • have it deleted (erasure)
  • ask us to limit how we use it (restriction)
  • object to how we use it, including reminders (objection)
  • have it sent to you or to another organisation in a format a computer can read (portability)

Some of these rights have limits. For example, we cannot delete records the law says we must keep.

To use any of them, email hello@thegoodsweep.co.uk. It costs nothing, and we will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page if the way we use your information changes.
