Recent Work Near Soham
We regularly visit homes in Soham and surrounding areas including Fordham, Isleham, Wicken, and Burwell. Work typically includes annual wood burner sweeps and inspections for homeowners preparing for winter.
What we see in Soham homes
The older part of Soham runs along the High Street and around St Andrew's Church, with brick and clunch cottages and Victorian houses whose chimneys were built for coal fires. Around that core the town has grown a great deal, and on the newer estates a stove is more likely to sit on its own flue than in a fireplace that was there from the start.
Out towards Wicken and Barway the farmhouses and fen edge cottages are older again. Whatever the house, the sweep is done the same careful way: dust sheets sealed to the fireplace opening, a HEPA filtered vacuum running throughout, and power sweeping or traditional rods and brush, whichever suits the flue.

Getting to you
From Great Barton we come across on the A14 and pick up the A142 at Newmarket, which runs straight up to Soham on its way to Ely. Karen will find you a day when you ring or send the form with your postcode.
Price
Chimney sweeping starts from around £75 per appliance and is confirmed with you before we come out. CCTV inspections and bird nest removal are priced once we have seen the chimney. There are no extras added on the day.
Questions we get asked in Soham
Our cottage near Wicken has a thatched roof. Can you sweep it?
Yes. Rick is approved by the Thatch Advice Centre, and a thatched roof is a reason to keep the flue swept rather than a reason to put it off. Tell Karen the roof is thatched when you book, and the certificate is emailed to you after the sweep so you have it for your insurer.
We have moved into one of the newer houses in Soham and the stove has its own flue. Does that need sweeping?
Yes. A stove flue collects soot in the same way a brick chimney does. It is swept with the method that suits it, with dust sheets sealed and a HEPA filtered vacuum running, and the certificate is emailed to you afterwards.
The chimney in our farmhouse outside Soham has not been used for years. Where do we start?
Do not light a fire until the flue has been looked at. If birds have been nesting, bird nest removal clears it, and if it is not clear what is up there a CCTV inspection shows the inside of the flue before anything else is decided. Both are priced once we have seen the chimney.
